For more than 50 years, UMC has been a leader in providing a full range of precision manufacturing services for the medical device and aerospace industries. To improve its manufacturing processes, create more space for the growing business, and enhance the work environment, UMC embarked on a 60,000 sq. ft. expansion to its existing campus. The addition will be built adjacent to the existing 75,000 sq. ft. facility and connected by a two-story breezeway, unifying the two buildings.
Pope Architects helped UMC’s leadership with an employee engagement process including surveying nearly 100 current employees to identify current space challenges and hopes for the new and updated environment. The team also worked with user groups and leadership to conduct a deep dive into the manufacturing process and flow. The design draws on UMC’s goals for innovation and future technology, while updating the existing campus to create a unified headquarters.
“Our current and future demand from key customers in the medical and aerospace industries are pushing the need to develop a new production facility to relieve capacity pressure at our existing site,” said Jaci Dukowitz, COO at UMC. “The expansion will allow the incorporation of new processes, products, and customers. It’s an integral part of our next phase of growth and we’re excited to be embarking on this initiative.”
