Macalester College Student Lounge Macalester College Student Lounge Macalester College Student Lounge

Macalester College recognized the need for more gathering and social space for its students and teamed with Pope Architects to design the new student lounge — The Loch.

The lounge  includes a food bar, performance stage with seating for 200, enclosed room with TVs and video game consoles, and study alcoves.

Pope Architects worked with Macalester College students and faculty.   Through visual listening sessions and design charrettes, the team created a space that evokes the Midwest’s differing landscapes and changing seasons.

"We need a space for hanging, socializing, group projects, eating, watching TV, and relaxing — an open and bright space that students want to spend some time in."
