Karges-Faulconbridge, Inc.

Karges-Faulconbridge Incorporated is a 100-person engineering firm with a strong commitment to sustainable design. Their search for a new headquarters facility in 2003 lead them to a 1970’s vintage vacant grocery store in Roseville, and Pope Associates was engaged to provide architectural/interior design services and LEED Registration/Certification assistance.

The project was one of the first accepted into the National Pilot Program for LEED–EB certification. The design included the introduction of north-facing roof-top monitors, and the addition of large windows on the north and east building elevations. A ground-source heating and cooling system was installed, relying on forty-eight drilled wells, each 200’ in depth. Recycled and recyclable materials were used throughout the facility as were low VOC mastics, paints, and materials. Demolition of existing construction was required and 88% of the resulting debris was recycled.

Upon completion, the project was submitted for and received LEED-EB Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The new headquarters became the first building to be gold certified in the State of Minnesota.
