In the mid-1950s, a vehicle that could provide mobility on snow-covered land — the Polaris snowmobile — was created. Since then, Polaris Industries of Roseau, Minnesota, has developed an exciting array of motorized recreational products including motorcycles, ATVs and utility vehicles.
Polaris wanted a new facility in addition to their existing research and development center in Roseau, that was closer to the Twin Cities metro area. Their vision was for a single development team to work in two locations and bring Polaris’ new products to market.
The need for functionality was paramount. The new Polaris facility would be a practical, flexible and energetic space where new products could move from concept, to design, to pilot production and finally into testing. The new facility that opened in June of 2005, located in Wyoming, Minnesota, meets and exceeds these goals.
Polaris committed itself to design of a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified “green” facility. We worked with our client to incorporate daylighting, high performance mechanical systems, storm water conservation, rain gardens and recycled materials into the design. The Polaris Product Development Center achieved LEED Certification from the USGBC in 2007. |

| Our collaboration with Ryan Companies on the new Polaris facility was key to the successful implementation of the client’s vision. Working as a design-build team, we were able to deliver an innovative solution on an aggressive schedule while incorporating input at many levels within the Polaris organization. To help drive home the “one-team, two-location” message, Pope assisted with interior design and furniture design at Polaris’ Roseau facility in parallel with the Wyoming project. |
